Wolf Creek Angus Ranch Bulls...

We invite you to visit Wolf Creek Angus Ranch and view the bulls offered for sale. They will be offered by private treaty on a first come basis.

February 1, 2008:   A total of 73 bulls will be offered for sale during 2008.  The bulls' 205-day weights averaged 584 lb., representing approximately 47% of their dams' average mature body weight. Our calves are not creep fed. Their weaning weights reflect their growth ability and the ability of their dams to rear them on native grass without supplemental feed. The average milk EPD of the bulls is +22, ranking in the top 35% of the Angus breed. In addition, 27% of the bulls descend from dams and/or granddams that have been designated "Pathfinder" cows by the American Angus Association for consistently recording the superior progeny weaning weights and fertility (breed back). We believe the production and reproductive efficiency evident in the moderate framed, functional cow herd is one of our breeding program's greatest strengths that can be passed on to your herd by retaining heifers sired by Wolf Creek bulls. We'd enjoy the opportunity to show you our cow herd and demonstrated these bred-in, economically important benefits.

Since weaning, the bulls have been fed a high roughage ration which produced an average of 2.70 pounds of gain per day from weaning to yearling. We don't push the bulls for extreme weight gains but instead target the condition we feel the bulls should be in as they're turned out for the breeding season.  Consequently, they will require no additional "conditioning" or "hardening" period prior to seeing service under range conditions.

WCAR bulls at feedbunkBased on actual birth weights and birth EPDs, over 80% of the bulls are suitable for use on heifers (posting an average birth EPD of only +0.6, and ranking in the top 19% of the Angus breed). Additionally, over 2/3 of the bulls are sired by proven A.I. sires which have positive EPDs for marbling, and have interim carcass EPDs themselves -- most notably, 100% of these bulls have positive EPDs for marbling (posting an average that ranks in the top 29% of the Angus breed at +.26), and 98% also have positive EPDs for rib eye area.  Furthermore, and of particular note, the average Wolf Creek bull $GRID of $25.27 ranks in the top 9% of the Angus breed (ALL exceed the breed average of $14.98), and 8% of the Wolf Creek bulls with grid value indexes rank in the very top 1% of the Angus breed at over $32.42. Similarly, 8% of these bulls also rank in the top 5% of the Angus breed for $BEEF at over $48.15. We'd be glad to visit further with you about how you can incorporate these increasingly important traits into your herd now and reap the benefits in years to come.
